Aces of Thunder, the VR-focused aerial combat sim from Gaijin Entertainment, is about to get a significant new chapter. The studio has confirmed that a full solo campaign will arrive on September 19, targeting both PC VR and PSVR 2 platforms.

Until now, the game’s appeal has centered on high-intensity multiplayer dogfights. With this update, the experience opens up to players who want structured, offline missions with more narrative flavor and controlled pacing.

Campaign structure and content

The solo campaign unfolds through a sequence of story missions, each designed to push different aspects of combat skill. These range from tight dogfights against AI aces to bombing runs and escort objectives, all framed within a World War II setting.

While the multiplayer component will still be the heart of Aces of Thunder, the campaign aims to offer a more guided way to experience its flight mechanics, making it appealing to both seasoned players and those still mastering VR aviation controls.

Skill challenges and replay value

Beyond the main story, the update includes standalone training challenges that emphasize precision flying, target tracking, and resource management in the cockpit. These scenarios are built for repeat play, allowing pilots to refine their techniques and push for better performance scores.

Because these challenges operate outside the campaign’s narrative, they also provide a quick way to test loadouts, experiment with maneuvers, and adapt to different aircraft before heading back into multiplayer matches.

Visual and mechanical consistency

The solo content retains the same cockpit-focused realism as the rest of Aces of Thunder. Every gauge, switch, and visual cue remains in full VR, maintaining the immersive fidelity that has defined the project since its reveal.

This ensures that the skills developed in single-player seamlessly transfer to competitive matches, reinforcing the game’s design philosophy of blending authentic simulation with accessible combat scenarios.
