  • Project Freefall Enters Early Access Oct. 13 Competitive Skydiving Tag in VR

Project Freefall is putting you in freefall literally. Developed by Schell Games, this VR title invites players into fast-paced aerial duels where positioning, tool use, and timing define who survives the fall. The early access version drops on October 13, with a demo available around the same window.

It isn’t a full release yet, but the early access version already promises a distinctive blend of vertical competition and spatial awareness that could make it stand out in the VR multiplayer lineup.

Core Gameplay & Systems

Matches typically involve 4 to 8 players skydiving simultaneously. Your goal is to eliminate opponents or force them out of bounds. Because there’s gravity and direction, movement and momentum become part of the strategy not just aim and shoot.

Players carry tools like melee gloves, gadgets, and parachutes to affect movement or disrupt enemies. The trick is using them to your advantage mid-fall, controlling velocity or redirecting trajectories against foes.

Platform & VR Focus

Initially, Project Freefall launches on Quest via early access. There’s no support for PC VR (Steam) or other platforms at the start. The demo circuit will give players a chance to test mechanics early, before committing to the full version.

The VR design leans into immersion visual depth cues, spatial perception, and motion all matter. A vertical arena isn’t just aesthetic it changes how you think about cover, line of sight, and trajectories.

What to Watch

Balance will be tough. When parachutes, knockouts, and speed collide, small advantages can escalate quickly. How tool cooldowns, stamina, and recovery are tuned will define whether matches feel fair or chaotic.

Also, the transition from demo to early access is critical. If players see too much roughness, lack of content, or balance issues early, retention could suffer. But if the core concept hooks, it might open up a fresh lane in multiplayer VR arenas.
