Call of Duty: Mobile isn’t slowing down as it rolls into Season 5. The new update, Primal Reckoning, shifts the tone with a prehistoric twist and adds fresh content across multiplayer, Battle Royale, and the seasonal battle pass.
The update goes live on May 22, and while the dino motif may seem like pure cosmetic flair, there are some real meta-impacting additions tucked inside this release.
New map: Armada Strike makes the jump to mobile
Season 5 introduces Armada Strike, a mid-sized naval combat map that originally appeared in Black Ops Cold War. The map centers around a large battleship, offering multiple levels of verticality, interior corridors, and long sightlines across open decks. It’s one of the more balanced new additions in terms of lane structure. Snipers get space, but interior flanks give close-range builds a chance.
The map’s design rewards quick repositioning and tactical awareness more than brute force. Given its roots in console CoD, Armada Strike feels tuned for more deliberate pacing, making it a sharp contrast from the hyper-tight layouts common to earlier mobile-exclusive maps.
Seasonal weapon: OTs 9 SMG enters the mix
The headline weapon drop this season is the OTs 9, a compact SMG known for its high fire rate and close-range dominance. It’s fast, aggressive, and built for players who favor rush tactics or flanking routes.
Unlocked through a seasonal challenge, the OTs 9 is designed to compete with the likes of the QQ9 and Fennec. Early testing suggests it trades range for speed and mobility, putting it firmly in the hands of players who can control tight engagements. It comes with a full attachment suite, offering room for tuning builds toward either tighter hip-fire or faster ADS for quick-draw setups.
Tactical gear: Tactical Echo joins the loadout pool
New this season is the Tactical Echo, a deployable device that emits a sonar-like pulse to reveal enemy positions in a radius. It’s not a UAV, but it fills a similar intel-gathering role for close-quarters maps. This gadget could shake up objective-based game modes, especially in Domination and Hardpoint, where early recon can tilt a fight. It adds another layer to the game’s expanding roster of tactical options without feeling too disruptive.
Cooldown timers and limited pulses prevent it from becoming overwhelming, but players running stealth perks will want to take note.
Battle Pass adds prehistoric cosmetics and themed unlocks
On the cosmetics side, the battle pass leans hard into the prehistoric theme. Think raptor-themed operator skins, fossil-patterned gun wraps, and volcanic camo effects.
It’s more playful than previous seasons, but it doesn’t feel completely out of place. CODM has been trending toward more stylized seasonal passes, and Primal Reckoning continues that shift without sacrificing weapon identity.
The pass includes a free tier track with limited access to the OTs 9 and new tactical gear, while premium tiers unlock exclusive blueprints, character skins, and animated emotes.
Additional modes and time-limited events
Season 5 also brings back several limited-time modes, with new challenges tied to the seasonal theme. While nothing revolutionary is being introduced on this front, event progression offers another path to unlock cosmetics, calling cards, and XP boosts.
Ranked mode sees minor tuning, and loadout adjustments across classes aim to rebalance previously underused weapons. Primal Reckoning might lean heavy on style, but the gameplay additions suggest a continued focus on rotating the meta without breaking what already works. The new map and tactical gear, in particular, bring enough nuance to keep multiplayer fresh heading into mid-year.
