Originally released as a Quest-exclusive in late 2023, Dungeons of Eternity found its audience through cooperative dungeon crawling and solid VR swordplay. Now, the game is making the jump to PC VR, with a release window set for later this year. Alongside the platform shift, it’s getting visual upgrades and crossplay support across devices.
The move to PC VR isn’t just a port. The studio is using the opportunity to push the game’s art and effects further, taking advantage of more powerful hardware. For fans of the original, it’s more of the same core gameplay, but sharper and cleaner. For newcomers, it’s a chance to get in with better fidelity and broader multiplayer support.
What’s Changing on PC VR
The most obvious difference in the upcoming PC version is the graphics. Lighting, shadows, and texture resolution have all been bumped up. The environments—already atmospheric on Quest—get more definition and polish. Weapons and armor sets are also being reworked visually, aiming to feel more grounded while still sticking to the game’s stylized fantasy look.
Outside of visuals, the core gameplay loop appears unchanged. Players explore procedurally generated dungeons solo or with friends, fighting off monsters and collecting loot. The PC version doesn’t add new mechanics but should offer smoother performance and higher visual fidelity for those with the hardware to support it.
Crossplay Keeps the Community Unified
Cross-platform play will be fully supported, meaning PC VR and Quest users can explore dungeons together without issue. It’s a smart move, considering the game’s cooperative focus. The Quest user base remains the largest segment of the VR market, so maintaining one shared pool for multiplayer makes sense from both a player and developer perspective.
The shared progression system also means players switching platforms or jumping between headsets won’t be locked into a single ecosystem. While this kind of integration is becoming more common in VR, it’s still not guaranteed, so it’s worth pointing out.
Where It Fits in the VR Genre
Dungeons of Eternity sits somewhere between Blade & Sorcery’s melee combat and the loot-driven co-op of games like Remnant: From the Ashes. What sets it apart is how well it balances accessible controls with physical, satisfying action. You don’t need deep RPG systems to enjoy it, but there’s enough loot variation to keep co-op sessions engaging.
On PC VR, it enters a space already packed with visually intensive titles. But its emphasis on pick-up-and-play co-op, combined with cross-platform flexibility, could give it staying power—especially if updates continue post-launch. Whether it evolves beyond its current formula is still unclear, but the foundations are solid.
Planned Release and What to Watch For
The PC VR launch is scheduled for sometime in late 2024. No firm date yet, but the developers have confirmed it’s in active development and aiming to hit this calendar year. As always, the quality of the port will come down to execution—especially in how well it preserves the intuitive feel of combat across different VR setups.
For now, the PC release is shaping up to be a visual upgrade and community expansion, not a reinvention. That might be enough for a game that already knows what it is: a co-op dungeon crawler that doesn’t overcomplicate the fun.
